Introducing the 2025 F16 Sails
The F16 class is enjoyed by a wide range of sailors, with many using their boats purely for the thrill of sailing rather than for racing. With that in mind, we’ve kept the classic mainsail line, allowing recreational sailors to focus on fun without needing the DS mainsails.
New Material: UPE
This year, we’re excited to introduce a new material, UPE (Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene). You may recognize this family of high-performance fibers, branded as Spectra and Dyneema. Like aramid (Kevlar) and carbon fiber, UPE is a high-modulus fiber, which means it’s extremely low-stretch—ideal for maintaining sail shape and maximizing speed. But UPE goes a step further with its toughness and durability. It offers superb UV resistance (outperforming Dacron), is hydrophobic (no water absorption), and is nearly impossible to tear or cut. This makes UPE the ultimate high-modulus fiber for cruising sailcloth, delivering a sail that’s highly durable, capable of carrying heavy loads without shape distortion, and built to last.
And, with its attractive silverish color, UPE doesn’t just perform well—it looks great too. This material also replaces Pentex, which has become increasingly difficult to source. Better yet, UPE is offered at the same price point, so you’ll get a higher-performing sail without additional cost.
Redesigned 1D F16 DS and Classic Mainsails
For 2025, we’ve refined our F16 sail shapes, resulting in a broader wind range, more power in lighter air, and better control in windier conditions. These changes make for a smoother and more powerful sailing experience, regardless of the conditions.
Enhanced 1D F16 Jib
Our 2025 F16 jib now features added low-end power, which helps reduce pitch movement, keeping the boat stable even in choppy, light-air conditions.
Faster 1D F16 Gennaker
Our 2025 gennaker has been re-engineered to minimize sheet loads, allowing it to drive the boat forward more efficiently and achieve faster speeds.
